Christmas ends today
We are at the end of our 40 day celebration of the great Festival of Christmas and Epiphany with Jesus being presented in the temple. This feast day is also known as Candlemas signifying Simeon’s words when he saw the Child – that he was ‘a light for revelation to the Gentiles. For centuries, on this day, people brought candles to the church to have them blessed. So we too first meet in the church hall, where our candles will be blessed and we shall process with them as we go on the final journey of this season, to take up the Child from where he has lain since Christmas Eve to present him to the Lord in our own Temple.
With every blessing
